Dena is my hometown. I grew up here and I still live here (thankfully!) As a lawyer focused on ensuring communities - especially communities of color - control the future of their own neighborhoods, I am especially concerned with private corporations looking to take advantage of our people during this time of need, including purchasing properties. While I will never judge anyone who decides they need to sell and/or chooses to move out of the area, I am working with other community-centered public interest lawyers and advocates to ensure those who want to rebuild in place are supported during the long road ahead, and that private equity firms do not prey on us. We are also trying to identify other strategies and resources that will provide those of you looking to sell with an alternative purchaser that will steward the land for the people and broader Dena community - as opposed to just trying to profit off of tragedy.
